SOST FAQ

  • “SOST” means three in Amharic, reflecting our three distinct experiences — the Café, the Vinyl Room Speakeasy, and the Resto-Lounge — all under one roof. Each space has its own sound, energy, and menu inspired by the African diaspora. SOST was also founded by three siblings, uniting their shared love of food, culture, and music.

  • 9am - 3am (all day experience) We are open for coffee, lunch, happy hour dinner and late night

  • Guests must be 21 and over after 10 PM. Before 10 PM, guests of all ages are welcome to dine.

  • We’re located in the heart of Shaw, Washington DC, just steps from the Shaw–Howard University Metro Station (Green/Yellow Line). Nearest garage: DCHFA Garage, 828 V St NW, Washington DC 20001. Street parking is also available nearby (please check posted signs).

  • You can make dinner, brunch, lunch, or happy hour reservations directly on Resy Walk-ins are always welcome based on availability.

  • Yes! We host birthdays, corporate events, and private dinners. Visit our Private Events page or email us at events@sost.com

  • Yes, VIP table and bottle service reservations can be made via our website or by contacting vipservice@sostdc.com.

  • We do! Our menu includes a variety of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free dishes. However, please note that our kitchen is not certified gluten-free. We encourage guests to inform their server of any dietary restrictions or allergies.

  • Outside cakes are welcome with a $25 plating fee. Balloons and small table décor are allowed, we just ask that you avoid confetti and open flames.

  • We understand plans change! For standard reservations, we appreciate at least 24 hours’ notice. For private events, please refer to your event agreement for details.

  • Absolutely. During café hours, you’re welcome to work or meet casually. Free Wi-Fi and outlets are available in designated areas.

  • Yes! From brand pop-ups to birthdays and corporate gatherings, our team can help plan your event across any of our spaces.

  • It depends on the date, space, and time. Our Events Team can provide custom packages tailored to your occasion.

  • Yes, but advance approval is required. Email hello@sostdc.com with your concept, preferred date, and any production needs.

  • Yes, a 20% service charge is added to all dine-in checks.

  • We offer distinct menus throughout the day and week, including:

    Coffee & Café Menu (9AM – 5PM)

    Lunch 12-5 PM

    Happy Hour Menus 3-7 PM

    Dinner Menu (5pm until 10 PM)

    Late-Night Menu (10 PM – midnight)

    Weekend Brunch Menu (11-4)

    Catering, Wine by the Glass/Bottle, and Signature Cocktails
